The Ohio Network
The Ohio Network is a state affiliate of the American Council on Education, Office of Women in Higher Education (ACE/OWHE). Our network's primary purpose is to promote the advancement of women into senior administrative positions in higher education and support the professional development of all women. American Council on Education (ACE)
Vision: Foster greater collaboration and new partnerships within
and outside the higher education community to help colleges and
university anticipate and address the challenges of the 21st
century and contribute to a stronger nation and a better world.
Mission: To provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher
education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy,
research and program initiatives.
Core Values: ACE values
inclusiveness and diversity, recognizes higher education’s
responsibility to society, and embraces the belief that widespread
access
to excellent postsecondary
educational opportunities is the cornerstone of a democratic
society.
Strategic Priorities: Representation: Serve as the principal
advocate and voice for all of higher education influencing the
federal agenda, state policy and public opinion. Leadership development:
Enhance the diversity and capacity of America higher education
leaders. Service: Support colleges, universities, and other higher
education and adult learner organizations in their efforts to
serve students and society.
Office of Women in Higher Education (OWHE)
Mission: Advancing
mid-level and senior women’s leadership
on campuses across the nation by identifying, developing, encouraging,
advancing, linking and supporting them throughout their careers.
Priorities: Build networks at the state level that serve as
the well spring and spring board for communication, supporting
the progress of women and which enable the work of the statewide
network to be done. Provide training modules for leadership development
that can be replicated at the state level. Develop a database
of women in the pipeline for leadership positions nationwide.
Initiatives: The four
leadership initiatives are: The President’s
Roundtable, National Leadership Forums, seminars for women of
color, and support for a national system of ACE State Networks.
ACE State Network: The national ACE Network is supported by
the Office of Women in Higher Education and the ACE Network Executive
Board. Each state has an ACE State Network comprised of universities
in the state.
Purpose of state networks: A state based network providing local
support for the advancement of women in higher education.
Components of a state network: Each state has a liaison who
serves on the ACE Network Executive Board, a presidential sponsor
for the state, state co-coordinators for the state, and an institutional
representative for each institution of higher education.
